Cayenne Spices Up India's Growing IoT Momentum Partnering with SenRa

India has not been slow to move on implementing IoT projects over the last few years, investing in smart cities and future jobs. Aruna Sundararajan, Secretary in the Department of Telecommunications, while speaking at the IoT India Congress last year said the IoT will create 10-15 million jobs over the next few years, with most of these jobs created by start-ups.

Sundararajan added that IoT is helping address gaps in infrastructure, agriculture and healthcare while leveraging the substantial software development talent in India, as more and more engineers are being educated by top technical institutions. India’s leadership in advancing telecom into the 4G era has also created a healthy atmosphere for connecting things and people.

Today, SenRa, a PAN India LoRaWAN network service provider, announced it has developed, tested and begun rolling out applications that run on their low power consumption and low-cost networks with myDevices, an Internet of Things solutions company.

Cayenne is now a platform of choice for SenRa and their customers and the evolving technology ecosystem; launched a few years ago, Cayenne is an IoT platform designed to “simplify the creation, development and deployment of end-to-end solutions.”

“We’re very active in the Make in India and Startup India initiatives established by the government of India,” said Ali Hosseini, CEO of SenRa. “We were looking for an easy and low-cost way to give India’s developer community all the tools they need to innovate and contribute to the rapidly growing IoT market in India. We’re working with more and more local colleges and universities to bring the Cayenne platform to developers.”

SenRa and myDevices will provide developers and coders free access to commercial grade LoRaWAN connectivity and an IoT solution builder enabling them to quickly create IoT solutions for India.

“We’re also working with SenRa to integrate ecosystem partners hardware with Cayenne,” said Kevin Bromber, CEO of myDevices, which is based in California but has been building their cloud-based platform with unlimited geographic access. “Our mission with SenRa is to make it faster, easier and with low risk to build, test, and then deploy connected machines across all industries and the Industrial IoT.”

Both companies are contributing members of the LoRa Alliance and are actively involved in conducting workshops, hackathons, and supporting center of excellence to bring awareness and educate people on LoRaWAN and its benefits.

There are plans in the work to contribute significant software, connectivity, training and curriculum to undergrad and graduate college students, including new courses for LoRaWAN and other IoT technologies.

While the relationship is not exclusive, both companies are committed to building on SenRa’s success at rolling out community networks for various smart city applications over the last year.

Utilizing Senet’s cloud-based Managed Network Services for IoT, SenRa launched its LoRaWAN connectivity services in May 2017, establishing a foothold in India’s massive IoT solutions market. SenRa has been able to implement 14 cities, setting up services on existing physical assets (towers and buildings) with licensed Operations Support System (OSS) and Business Support System (BSS) platforms designed to manage the radio access network, onboard customers and facilitate transactions.

Earlier this year, SenRa reported deploying LoRaWAN connectivity, customer support and IoT developer services in less than 3 months, compared to a general time table of eighteen to twenty-four months.

SenRa has deployed across fourteen cities throughout India, including Delhi, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and Pune.

“We are on track to be in thirty cities by the end of this year,” Hosseini said, “and having partners like myDevices helps amplify the value of our network services offering.”

MyDevices allows SenRa to extend its offerings to include connectivity with (literally) “In the Box” solutions including gateways, sensors and web and mobile apps.

Cayenne offers “solution builder” programs, ideal for use by India’s top engineering and design schools, along with a catalog of drag and drop IoT devices. Their curated boxes are made for a variety of vertical markets and will be available for commercial use, already full tested on SenRa’s network and in various sandboxes.

“Our mission is closely aligned with SenRa’s” said Bromber. “We both are working to simplify the connected world, particularly in smart cities, smart buildings, smart agriculture and asset tracking that addresses many of India’s greatest challenges including the growth of the population in urban and rural areas. Our solutions can support a clean water supply, electricity for more homes, more efficient government services and, perhaps most exciting, job creation.”

The technology used in a LoRaWAN™ network is designed to connect low-cost, battery-operated sensors over long distances in harsh environments that were previously too challenging or cost-prohibitive to connect. With its unique penetration capability, a LoRaWAN™ gateway deployed on a building or tower can connect to sensors more than 10 miles away or to water meters deployed underground or in basements.

The LoRa Alliance, which both companies are members of, is an open, nonprofit association that has grown to more than 500 members since its inception in March 2015, becoming one of the largest and fastest-growing alliances in the technology sector. Its members closely collaborate and share experiences to promote the LoRaWAN protocol as the leading open global standard for secure, carrier-grade IoT LPWAN connectivity.
