LPWAN in Action: Aviation and Ground Support

The IoT Evolution Expo is coming up fast, and we interviewed several of our speakers to get a bit of a preview of what to expect from their sessions.

Here, we spoke to Gerrit Rexhausen, Program Manager, Corporate Strategy & Innovation Management at Lufthansa Technik. He started at the company in 2003 in the engine overhaul shop. His work covers IoT/ Industry 4.0, automation projects, and he is responsible for the project portfolio MRO 4.0 (Maintenance Repair & Overhaul). He is based and born in Hamburg, Germany and graduated from the University of Hamburg with a diploma in process engineering. He will be a keynote speaker at the IoT Evolution Expo, which is taking place January 29 to February 1, 2019, in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

His keynote, “IoT/ LPWAN in Action from an End User - Smart Ground Support Equipment 4.0 for MRO in the Aviation Industry,” will take place Wednesday, January 30 at 3:15 p.m.

Here is a little preview of his thoughts:

What will be some key points you plan to hit in your keynote?
The lessons learned for both sides- solution provider and us (customer) - during the decision process.

What new insights can attendees expect to take home from your keynote?
How they can deploy a new/ unknown technology (for the company) in a large enterprise with a lot of stakeholders.

Can you identify a few important trends influencing your sector of the IoT which will shape the path of the industry? Why these?
5G, because it has more possibilities then standard networks. Remote technologies with AR to decrease maintenance cost at other locations, and for training.

What are the biggest challenges facing the IoT? What are some important tools needed to overcome them?
Challenge: To have the basic requirements to implement IoT Technologies. For example, the interoperability of machines, parts and workers including the usage of mobile devices with connection to the enterprise IT (like the ERP system).
