Licensed, LoRaWAN, Cellular: Three Paths to Global IoT Services
CHA-03
Director of Product Management Semtech Partner BH IoT Group Editor-in-Chief Space IT Bridge Founder & CEO OQ Technology
With only 10% to 35% of the globe accessible by terrestrial networks, there’s plenty of room for satellite networks to provide affordable worldwide coverage. Small satellites and large constellations built around open standards are dramatically driving down the CapEx and OpEx cost to communicate with a device, undercutting incumbent solutions. This panel will discuss existing licensed (radio band) satellite solutions and the emergence of satellite to service LoRaWAN and cellular devices.

Global IoT Service Architectures
CHA-04
Founder & CEO Astrocast Vice President & General Manager of IoT and Aviation Iridium Communications Editor-in-Chief Space IT Bridge
Global IoT service can be delivered in different forms. What are the planning, OpEx, and CapEx tradeoffs between using a dedicated satellite gateway to aggregate IoT device communications in the field from LoRa, WiFi, Bluetooth and other protocols versus having devices directly talk to the satellite (DTS) as it passes overhead? Are hybrid solutions combining cellular and satellite networks cost effective? Panel members will discuss the nuances of either/or/both and how gateways and DTS fit in with broader IoT network philosophies.
